Well, I am back in the city. I spent the last two days getting into the swing of New York again. I have a mini-trip planned for Chicago to see family, but that’s only for two days. I am getting my haircut, celebrating many birthdays, and experiencing another city I know well.

I forgot just how delicious a bowl of tahini miso ramen from Souen in the East Village is. That place has held a strong grip on Shivani and my restaurant experiences. I did a little research on Souen, and I discovered that they used to have locations in both SoHo and Union Square.

I visited some friends I made while dining there yesterday. They were pleased to see me but asked one question

“Are you back early? You told us you would be gone a month!”

While their inquisitiveness is valid, I still figured they had forgotten about the conversation. I returned to the city earlier than planned because I missed all of the hole-in-the-wall establishments, particularly the ones in the East Village. I need to study my area's neighbourhoods more, as I've noticed their differences. Going West to East is like jumping through a portal. Understanding the location of my apartment is a crucial aspect of loving it.

Anyways, the big 2-1 is coming up for me. I am excited to turn of age so I can experience even more of the city’s culture. I have heard lots of stories, and I am ready to write my own. I’m ready to hear “Another Night” by Real McCoy on throwback night and have drinks at the ritzy bars. I thought about throwing a party, but to nobody’s surprise, it is extremely pricey. The catering menus at many of the stablishments I looked at offer excellent food packages, but I know getting the bill will be another experience.
