Yesterday was likely one of the busiest days I have had this year. I woke up at 6 AM to shower, get ready, and pick out the first NYFW fashion week outfit, all before my 9 AM class. One of my professors greeted me upon entering Lang and inquired about the new project I was working on.

“Blake informed me you asked him to supervise your independent study? He seemed genuinely interested. What is it about?”

Immediately, I pictured all of my dear professor friends sitting around a kitchen bar, pouring each other glasses of wine and laughing at their student’s ideas. Another faculty member refuted my idea, yet I can't shake the mental image I've created.

After a long day of classes and laughter at the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf, I ran over to a spot my friend Monna and I have been trying to get into for the past month. The spot is an udon restaurant, and after many failed attempts at getting a table by simply walking in, we have decided that the next best move is to make a reservation.

The uncomfortable truth, however, is that making a reservation with other students can be challenging. Classes sometimes can get out late because of an untimely professor, leaving you to decide whether or not the scheduled end time for the class is worth enforcing. As I have progressed in my academic career, I have observed that taking bold actions is sometimes the best choice. Professor is not finishing on time? Leave. A nasty-worded email can be deleted, and you can move on.

At the end of my Art Research class yesterday, I felt like an idiot. The class focuses heavily on the psychology behind creating art, and I sometimes feel flushed with embarrassment when I finish my thought. We sit in that hot classroom and ponder the meaning behind art and the relationship it has to the self. It would be easy to understand this connection if we could just plug our brains with knowledge of every artistic event that came before us.

Again, I run back to my wild professor delusions. I can picture the professor of the class extending his ruler and slapping it against a poster with the saying

“The more I learn, the less I realize I know.”
