Today my dad and I walked all around the city searching for my next pair of shoes. We looked downtown and uptown and wanted to stop into Dover Street Market, but most places were closing early for the holiday. We didn’t have any plans to sit outside and watch the fireworks as we entertained ourselves through our adventures. By the time the fireworks started going off, we were already home.

Today’s song of the day is one I haven’t listened to in a hot minute. My father and I were sitting in a restaurant, and all of the songs reminded us of the late 80s when rock bands turned to love ballads. My father told me stories about some of his favorite bands turning to mushy-gushy hits to sell records. We disagreed on the better of the two possibilities for song of the day, but I think it remains the better option. Today’s song of the day is Love Bites by Def Leppard.

I wanted to see the band in concert performing alongside Mötley Crüe, but the tickets sold out within seconds. My parents and I always joke that I should go on one of those rock cruises where all they play are old hits that nobody from my generation listens to. I am not the most avid fan of this era of music, but I can see myself clapping along to all of the hits. Me and all the boomers living out their younger years.

Tell me why I cannot find a good shoe in this city. I will admit that I am extremely picky. I have learned through shopping and working with students, designers, and fashionistas that I shouldn’t buy an expensive piece unless I absolutely love it. I wasn’t absolutely loving any of the pieces I saw today. A Gucci bag caught my eye until I thought about how the bag would be used.

I spoke with a sales associate from Burberry about my style after she complimented my Dior shades. I voiced my want for a big men’s boot made by Burberry. She told me that there was nothing on the docket that looked like that. We got to chatting about the future of the brand, and I left with nothing but a fresh perspective on what next year may look like.

We made our way up fifth avenue to Saks and Bergdorf Goodman. Saks had some bold choices that made my dad ponder the condition of the shoes we were looking at. The beaten-up Balenciaga shoes became a topic of conversation for us throughout the entire store. I knew before going into BG that the store is a little too classy for my taste, but I wanted to give it another shot. None of the places we went had shoes I liked. The hunt continues tomorrow.
