One of my favorites, Amy Madigan, won the Oscar for her supporting role in Weapons. I am glad the voters, whoever they are, decided on Madigan. I loved her role as Aunt Gladys in Weapons and can’t wait to see more of her work when it comes out. I am a newfound fan of Amy Madigan.
I found several people to interview for Shivani and I’s new NYC dating column. We began with our friend, Case, as they were the most available to complete the interview. In three hours, I completed the article and submitted it to our Substack, hoping for a positive response. It was a lot of fun to write.
I was walking through Washington Square Park today in my long red trench coat, and a man assisting a band with crowd control flagged me down. I walked over, and he got on the mic to say, “Everybody, everybody, clap for this person’s outfit!”
I did a slight twirl and bowed when people clapped. The moment was short-lived, though, because I noticed how nobody was dancing along to the music. I looked around and saw many phones out and up high. There was little response from the audience, and most of them hid behind their screens. Part of me wants to feel embarrassed by the awkwardness of the entire encounter, and part of me wants to brush it off. The band’s lack of swag was apparent, and the music fell flat. The drummer was yelling into the microphone, trying too hard to be avant-garde.
The moment reminded me of a time when Shivani, Jenna, Monna, and I were walking to a bar that we would later be turned away from. I was wearing the same coat that night, and during our adventure down the Lower East Side, I was stopped by an aspiring singer. He told us he was in a band, so naturally I asked him his name. I nearly fell on the floor, dying of laughter, when he said, “String Cheese.”
I thought to myself, “What the f*ck kind of name is that? String Cheese?”
I have some waiting in my fridge for me right now. Want some?
